This lesson plan highlights the experiences and perspectives of the first Filipina migrants to the Pajaro Valley. It includes activities for primary source analysis. After completing this lesson students will be able to:

  • Interpret how gender created specific expectations and experiences in the lives of the manang   
  • Compare and contrast manang’s different immigration experiences
  • Analyze photographic and oral history primary sources using critical gender studies skills
