A Look into Filipina Migration: Manang Settlement in the Pajaro Valley Lesson Plan

This lesson plan highlights the experiences and perspectives of the first Filipina migrants to the Pajaro Valley. It includes activities for a primary source analysis. After completing this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Interpret how gender created specific expectations and experiences in the lives of the manang   
  • Compare and contrast the different immigration experiences of the manang
  • Analyze photographic and oral history primary sources using critical gender studies skills
